Laundry Center Table Reveal

March 5, 2011

Okay…I know I’m several days behind on this reveal. I have an excellent reason for this delay…and I’ll get to that explanation in a few moments.

As you know, I spent about three weeks off and on working on what I referred to as my laundry basket shelf. After getting this baby into my laundry room and actually using it for about a week, I’ve renamed it.

This baby is now known as my laundry center table. It’s a folding table, a sorting center, and it’s just darn pretty to look at.

So without further ado…

And here’s another shot (apologies in advance for this slightly blurry photo, but I was crouched in a corner and the oven timer was going off to let me know the blueberry muffins were ready)…

Also please excuse me for failing to “stage” this photo. Yes, that huge pile on top of the laundry center is waiting for me to fold it. Yes, those cheap commercial cubbies with the peeling laminate are ugly, and, yes, I have plans to build some cabinets to replace them.

However, The Hubster has made me promise that I will wait at least a week before I begin another project. I’ve been very wrapped up in another project this week, and the laundry has gotten behind and the dust has piled up and the floors are in desperate need of sweeping, mopping and vacuuming.

I’m hoping The Hubster doesn’t consider finishing touches to be “another project” because tomorrow I’m hoping to squeeze in a couple of hours to do something to dress up the trim work around the posts. It’s gorgeous but needs some “pop”. The details are getting lost in that large expanse of white so I’m planning on distressing the edges a bit with a sanding block and wiping on some chocolate-colored glaze.

I’ve started working on plans for this baby in SketchUp, and I will get those posted in case you decide you just have to have one for yourself. I drew sketches on paper while I was building this, but to say they leave a bit to be desired would be a gross understatement.

I’m ever so grateful for the many awesome bloggers out there who helped me bring this laundry center to life. Ana, who first brought the inspiration piece to my attention, Sausha who is the original source of this awesome idea, and Christa who posted plans I could modify for my purposes. Thank you, ladies, for sharing your time, your talents, and your creativity. I am humbled by your generosity and inspired by your work.

Now…zip over to “What Was I Thinking?”…to check out the project that has completely absorbed me this week…

Believe it or not, I found those baskets at Wal-Mart for twelve bucks each. I’d been searching for quite a while, and when I discovered them I actually did a happy dance in the aisle. I got a few weird looks, but what the heck? When I’m happy, I’m happy!!!

      Tracy,
Thanks for the comment. I’m thrilled you like the laundry center enough to inquire about it. I am in the process of working on the plans. If you’ve read some of my other posts, you know that Sketch Up has given me more than one migraine. I recently reached a turning point, however, and I now have a Materials/Tools list, a Cut List, and the first five steps of this plan ready for publication. I hope to have this plan published by the end of the month. Thanks for your patience, and I hope you can convince your Honey-Do to do it. I’ve discovered my laundry center will hold every piece of clothing owned by every member of this family as well as an entire shed full of tools.

    Hi Lea,

I just love what you did with this. I too can not wait for the plans/Materials/Tools and cut list.
It’s beautiful. 🙂 It is just what I’ve been looking for to go in my laundry room. Thanks! You ROCK

      Tammy,
I’m so glad you like it! It was a long process…but everything for me is a long process. I’m still plugging away on those plans…a few minutes here and there. I love summer but hate the constant running as I try to keep the children entertained so they don’t do bodily harm to each other. What I wouldn’t give for eight uninterrupted hours of computer time. So just hang in there…plans ARE coming.

I Also am in LOVE with this for a folding table. Have you had a chance to post the plans
    anywhere?

    Thanks,
    Tammy

      Tammy,

Unfortunately not yet. My mom was diagnosed with cancer in August, and I’ve spent a lot more time with her (and her doctors) than I have on my computer. I will get the plans finished, and when I do I will post them. Cross my heart! And it does make for a great folding table, if you don’t pile it mile high with a ton of other crap like I am VERY prone to do.

That is sweet! I can’t wait to see the plans.

      Cathy,

I’m so glad you liked my laundry center. I’m been lax (to say the least) on posting lately. My mom was diagnosed with cancer in August, and I’m blessed that I’ve been able to support her through her first round of treatments. However, her illness has taken priority over pretty much everything else in my life, including house cleaning (darn!), building, and posting. I will get this plans finished. I promise! And I will share them. Cross my heart. Thanks so much for reading and for commenting!
